Hi,
I am not quite sure what he's doing, but I don't think it's twirling.
Here's a site, that explains twirling (Star Gazing disorder ).

I hope it will be helpfull.

Not sure what he is doing either but it does seem rather controlled to be twirling.

Sad day....my lil buddy passed away this morning.
I never got a chance to give him the meds I ordered online. Meds should arrive tomorrow or Saturday. I guess I waited too long.
Now I have to find a friend for my female.

So sorry you lost him. Though I'm not qualified to give medical advice, it does seem like something else might have been going on with him, as I've heard of birds living with twirling for a very long time. It doesn't seem to be the type condition that kills them quickly. The few birds I've seen with twirling are much more pronounced with their head movements, almost turning their heads around backwards and upwards. They also spend a lot of time on the ground (I wonder if it is because they have trouble maintaining their balance?).

I agree Sally that he must've had something else because even though he would stay on the ground most of the time due to balancing issues his head eventually stood to one side, he was only looking to his left he couldn't turn his head to look right. I really think he had a night fright and banged his poor ear on the cage and probably that caused an infection which is why I had order the meds per the ladygouldianfich site. My female is doing fine and has no signs of any issues. She chirps on a regular basis, flies around her cage and voluntarily gets out of the cage when I leave the door opened for her to fly around the room. They both had the same diet and lived under the same conditions.

Oh thats really sad. I lost my male zebra yesterday too. He had a growth on his neck, possibly a tumor so I knew it was a matter of time. Took him about 2-3 weeks to go, poor fella. He wobbled his head which I decided was a way for food to pass down his throat. They have funny symptoms sometimes and tell us after its too late. Sorry for your loss.

Hi Sue,
Yeah, I knew about your situation since I was continuously following the posts as others tried to help you in getting your zebra better. Sorry for your loss.
I recently got two societies as friends for my lonely female Gouldian.
