Heat is important. I like the idea of a thermostat, but I have not figured out how to make one where the control is outside the cage.

If you use wood, it also needs good painting, so that you can disinfect the cage after it is used. The alternative is to use a small metal cage, and temporary disposable cardboard sides to hold the heat in. The metal cage being easier to clean and disinfect.

Currently I use a small cage and put an incandescent lamp next to the cage. The bird can go closer or farther from the lamp to get the heat level that it wants.
