Hi!
Ummm, I'm pretty new to this whoel finch owner thing, so I would like a little advice when it comes to toys. I have two finches, but one of them has clubbed feet (both of the feet are curled over resembling a club) He can walk/hop/fly just fine (in fact, he's the best flyer I've ever seen) but he can't climb at all.
So, yeah. I was just wondering if the finches need toys so they won't be bored, and if so what kind. My other finch is just fine. There's nothing wrong with her. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The only toys my finches enjoy are their swings - they all love those. They really can't climb at all - finches are different from the parrot family that way. Can your little one perch well enough to enjoy a swing?

I'm not sure if he can perch on a swing. I think it depends on what kind I get. Most of them have pretty wide bases right??? I can always make one too.

What I meant by climbing was basically hanging on the side of the cage. I feel sorry for my zeb (the handicapped one);whenever my other finch-the society- perches on the side of the cage, he'll look up at her sideways and fly up towards her, but then he has nowhere to go but back down again

Anyways, thanks. I'll see if I can find any cheap swings on clearance at the local shops.

You could also try adding a couple of wider "perches" to the cage. I've heard of folks using shelves for handicapped birds - easier to sit on than a traditional perch. Lucky guy to find a bird mom who's looking after him!
