My baby finch will hopefully be 2 weeks old tomorrow and it (referring to as it since not sure if its boy or girl) seems to be having these weird movements in its crop similar to another baby I raised last year that passed away. I want to get ahead of whatever this is to see if I can stop it in time.

The previous baby had a slow crop, weird movements like in this video, and slow development as a result. Right now, this baby's crop appears to be digesting fine for now but has the same movements with what looks like acid reflux (food comes up during these movements and it swallows it back down, sometimes it wiggles its head almost in discomfort).

Its formula consists of Lafebers Nutristart formula, Avitech Formula One, and regular water.

I have started giving medistatin in hopes that it will help. Applesauce and apple cider vinegar haven't worked. Has anyone had experience with this before while handfeeding babies? Is this crop movement normal when slow crop is not involved?

Dosing with medistatin will help. I would try not to overfill the crop to much. Formula one is suppose to only be used for a very short time, it contains a lot of sugar and is meant to add weight on young slowly developing babies. Too much can actually cause yeast.

Medistatin should be mixed 1/4 teaspoon to one liter bottle. (whatever amount of solution you do not use it needs to be stored in a dark cabinet since it will break down in the light) Beak dose twice a day. It will catch any yeast/fungal that may have started.

If using medistatin skip the ACV, you can add just the tiniest amount of unsweeten organic apple sauce, the primary source of nutrition should be the formula.

Are you using a brooder? Is the baby passing droppings?

cindy The baby is pooping all the time and its crop is emptying. It's in a brooder right now and all of the temps are the same as I used for Meepin and Cooper (2 other finches I've raised ).
