Bird's Feet

Post by Fraudster » Wed Jul 06, 2016 2:09 am

Hey all,
Was cleaning out my aviary today and notice a gouldian and an owl finch's foot - it seemed like there's callous, or poop stuck on it and makes a hard 'cluck' sound when stepping on something hard. Is it just solidified poo? How can I clean it?

Thanks!!

It sounds to me like it would be poop stuck on the bottom of their feet, which can happen. Are they bathing? Sometimes, if they bathe enough, the poop will loosen and fall off. More likely, you will have to catch them up and clean the feet--just use a very wet cloth, or dip their feet in a bowl of water and work off the poop with your fingers.

sally OAvila1986 thanks guys! Cleaned it with water and cloth - i was initially reluctant to do so because i thought i would wreck the birds feet, but it got the poo out - very, very happy!

Glad that worked. Sometimes we just have to do their cleaning for them! When I have birds that are reluctant to bathe, I will fill a spray bottle with water and mist/spray them till they are nice and wet. Then they will groom themselves.
