I am not sure about that one..... Do you think it could have been bird poop? I haven't ever seen any worms. Do you treat your birds for worms periodiocally?

I often find little things that look like worms (not that long though), and one day I panicked, and my cousin, who grew up with birds, and whose inlaws run an aviary/bird rescue, laughed at me and told me it was just poop. Could it be poop?

It sounds like a tiny earthworm, did you have any sort of dirt or plants in there recently? Maybe a piece of lettuce that had a worm in it that dropped to the ground? Earthworms like damp places and water maybe thats why it was hanging out there

Do you feed your birds dried rice by any chance?
