Gouldian Finch male does not fly

Hi , I have a red head healthy male which never fly. He just hops from perch to perch. He is very healthy and had eggs with female ( two clutches ) both infertile. How to increase the fertility and is he just hoper or can anything be done to make him fly .

Have you had him since he was a baby? If not, perhaps he was kept in a very small cage and his muscles didn't develop properly. It could be that the reason for the infertile eggs is that he didn't mate properly, since he can't fly. To increase fertility, you can try to increase the amount of protein he eats.

is he rather plump in the lower abdomen? if you part the feathers in the lower belly see if you see a yellow meringue like substance under the skin.... fatty liver can cause a bird not to fly and can effect fertility too.

cindy I bought him as adult . He is very small compared to other gouldians which I have. He is very aggressive , fights with other males. He had two clutches with red head female ...took care of eggs very well although they were infertile
