I'd like to know which medications you have administered to finches at the same time (in the same water) with good effect and no losses.

In the absence of information about safety, medications should not be mixed. However, of course some are actually safe to mix. With your help I'd like to build a list here of medication combinations that have been administered safely to finches.

I have mixed...

• Moxidectin+Praziquantel + Baycox
• Moxidectin+Praziquantel + Diclazuril

...with no obvious ill effects.

This off off-topic immediately, but...

• Moxidectin is a mitocide (mites) and antihelmintic (worms)
• Praziquantel is an antihelmintic (tapeworms)
• Toltrazuril (Baycox) and Diclazuril are both coccidiocides (coccidia)

They are quite commonly mixed to treat or prevent concomitant worm/coccidiosis infections after wet weather.

I use a lot of Morning Bird's products, and one thing I really like is that they provide a chart showing which of their products can be used at the same time as others. This is important to know, as someone could inadvertently cause a serious reaction by combining the wrong medications.

Please keep this discussion solely to the combinations any of you have used successfully in the past. It would be a good idea to also add what that combination was used to treat.

Stephanie, I am familiar with how Australian breeders mix the products you mentioned....

Here in the states we have moxidectin it covers mites and worm except tape, here we would need to add a de wormer after the course of moxidectin.

Moxidectin Plus covers mites and all worms including tape.

Ronex or Ronivet S can safely be mixed with Medpet's Tri Sulfa... The mix is a treatment for (ronex/ronivet) internal parasites (not mites), protozoa, trichomonas and (tri sulfa) cocci and bacteria, some use it as a preventative in quarantine (the treatment is recommended based on symptoms, belly pictures and droppings, symptoms. We recommend this mix on my groups often along with other treatments. Both tri sulfa and ronivet or ronex are gentle and safe to use on hatchlings/young. Note..Tri sulfa is slow acting, improvement is typically seen about the 4th day of treatment...since it is slow acting we have recommended in some cases to run the treatment course for 10 to 14 (prefer 2 weeks). Extra mix goes in the fridge. (finches need 12% rondiazole (ingredient in ronex and ronivet. If you can only get 6% double your powder to one part water)

In cases where there is also a fungal or yeast issue you can beak dose 2 times a day with medistatin or nystatin wile treating with Tri sulfa and ronex or ronivet. do not force the beak open to dose, it is dropped to the side, back corner of the beak. Babies begging you can dose as you would as if feeding formula...drop it in the beak. Pipettes or a dropper can be used.

If using Baytril on finches it for some reason causes yeast and fungals to come up in finches more so than hookbills... you will need to also beak dose with either nystain or medistatin.

a note regarding medistatin or nystatin.... when you mix it keep it in a dark bottle or covered bottle and place in a dark cabinet, only make up enough to get you through 3 to 4 days at a time. Do not use it in the water tubes or cups, it is very light sensitive and breaks down quickly in the light.

I refer to the Morningbird Chart or ask a professional before mixing medications or preventatives. Certain medications/preventatives you can not use on nestlings or chicks under a certain age, Baytril is one of them.
