Plucked fledglings

My two new zebra fledglings are being plucked. They have started to feed themselves but are a sorry sight .I don't think it is just an early moult. Would it be best to separate them or hope that the next feathers will grow in soon? They appear ok otherwise but a bit smaller than expected even allowing for the feather loss.

If they are eating and drinking on their own, they can be separated from the parents, but watch them carefully to make sure they are able to be independent. The parents are probably plucking them for nesting material.
