I was just going thru the meds and supplements i have in my bird cabinet and i noticed i am wasting quite a lot of money while trying to be prepared.

I cant` believe how much stuff i am trashing/wasting right now.

Can you please tell me what do you have in yours to be safe in case of emergency? Which antibiotics etc? Not for an outdoor aviary. For a simple indoor cage preparation.

metinemre I don't keep a lot on hand, as I went through the same as you some time back, throwing out a small fortune in meds that were never even opened.

I do keep liquid calcium on hand, as it can save the life of an egg bound hen, which can happen even when not breeding.

I also keep Scatt and Wormaway on hand for quarantine birds.

I don't keep antibiotics on hand, since I don't believe in using antibiotics unless I know what I am treating. Since I am not an avian vet, I rarely know what I would be treating, and I live in an area with several avian vets.

I do keep a couple of products for stress--Thrive and NV powder. These two can carry a bird through a stress period, such as going to shows, marts, etc.

I guess that`s what i`ll do. Have liquid calcium and saved my green singer that doesn`t stop laying twice. and other supplements. I will post this subject elsewhere now,

I do suggest the two most often uses is ronex 12% or ronivet 12% and tri sulfa... these two can be mixed together to combat a few things..protozoa, internal parasites...tri sulfa gets bacteria and cocci. Safe enough to use on young in the nest. this can also be used in quarantine instead of some of the other products.

If you handfeed young finches medistatin is another to keep on hand..for fungal and yeast.

Baytril is used for upper respiratory and sinus issues, medistatin is given at the same time.

those are the basic ones I keep on hand and recommend especially if you do not have an avian vet.

and Scatt or topical ivermectin 1%
