Post by haroun » Sun Dec 11, 2016 4:20 pm

[attachment=0Hi ladies and gents, completly stucked genetics rules are broken or whatone ?
Ok i breed a unrelated mate a BC /R-CFW purchassed at 200 miles far with my FC LB hen, everything seem go perfectly, 6eggs were laid, 5 hatch, till yesterday i discocered that the oldone of the five babies a FC is , yes iS amazing
He is blind or got some of blindness, and today was worst all the otherone with soft lightener colors future FC or lb FC. were also blind. thelonly one witch has safe opened eyes is a grey
ok we will have blindness in the clutches if we breed Cheeked mate but here #-o the cock is a completly if we see its h
Phenotype is a BC grey and has no sign of FC or GC mut as this is Dominante
Can someone explain please, The Cheeked mut has become recessive or what. BTw i breed the same hen with 2other Bc and nevet got this issue.
i'll put other pics asap

Poor little one. From what I understood in your post, you believe the blindness is genetically related by breeding her with a male you bought.

Sadly , I assume you wont be able to breed them again. Sorry this didnt turn out well. :(

I have no clue about zebras genetics. Hopefully our zebra people can offer some help.

Could be this due to an infection

hi babs and thanks for ur the reconfort answer .genetically it's impossible to get blindness by breeding fawn cheek (or grey cheek) to another bird with different mutation , you can have blindness olny if u breed FC TO FC( GC TO GC , FC TO GC).
but here it happens in this clutch amazing dad is a normal grey BlackCheek /rcfw and mum is Fawn Cheek light Back . i have done same with same hen and a different cock (BlackCheek ) and i haen't got this case !!!

Sorry my friend, I honestly don't know what's happened with this latest clutch, and what might have caused the blindness.

Personally, I would not breed this pair again.
Had it only been one baby, I would say that it was just one of those chance things, but seeing as all the chicks appear to be blind or partially blind, my guess would be that there are some hidden genetics between these two parents, that are not visible to the eye.

Poor babies..... what are you going to do with them?

hi lovezebs
for sure this pair will never getting breed together again , amazing this hen was raised on my folk on 2015 and the cok was rent from a friend him self has bought it from a pet at 200 miles far. as mentioned at roybecham website bilnd can occures only if we breed cheeked togeteher !! as you see this cock has no sign of cheecked mutation on his phenotype .
for the babies i'll keep them in the same box and try manage it according to their situation (more feed box , low perche etc) and this starting from their fledgeling , of corse parents will stay with them in same box more time than the expexted to train them.

Strange how sometimes unexpected things pop up when breeding. Who knows what hidden genes make up these two birds...

Wishing you good luck with these blind babies.

haroun Like the others, I have no idea what could have caused this, perhaps some hidden genes. I too would not breed this pair together again.

Has your friend bred this bird before?
Were there any problems with the offspring?

lovezebs Sally
yes he has already bred it before , he brings it and its hen from a market and reproduce them on july he got 3 chiks all of them are BC- RCFW
i bred the same bird the male with my own BCCFW i havn't got any problem, i got regular BC Grey .
Same for my hen i bred her with my own BC Grey/cfw cocks i got very wonderfull guys all of them LB /BC and wonderfull FC all of them healthy and safe [-o< .
My goal is that next year i'll got FCBC OR GCBC grey or lb by cross mating the chicks . so ill use only the two first clutches of her ,i wouldn't use a backcross dad (bc) -daughter(FC) to got it .
this is one f my zebra's fantasm 8) http://www.efinch.com/birdpix4/gcbc_pr.jpg
