head jerking

Post by Denise » Mon Jan 02, 2017 3:41 pm

Hello all. I am new to the finch forum. What a wonderful idea!!! I have 4 finches in a china cabinet converted to aviary. All doing very well. And, I have my special girl. She is a green singer. She is blind in one eye do to an eye infection approx. a year ago. Not sure just how much she can see out of the other. She will will look at me and follow my movements. She does not fly well and has trouble getting around to her food and water. I have her in a small cage (too small for finch standards, but easy for her to get around in) close to the others. She is very sweet and because I had to catch her and put meds in her eye several times a day, she has no fear of me. She enjoys a cuddle and fruit treat eating out of my hand. At times lately, she will do a head ticking-jerk. She does not turn her head upside down and does not loose her balance or sit on the floor. She will be looking forward, then jerk to the rt. , back forward...repeatedly. Looks fine most of the time. Any ideas guys?
Thanks,
Denise

Not a Vet.

But is it possible that the infection she had, caused some neurological damage?

It's just Elana, lol

Do you have an Avian Vet near by, who could possibly make some recommendations?

Another possibility is getting in touch with the people on the site below. I know that it talks mainly about Gouldian finches, but they have a section on the left side of the page, where you can ask advice ( Need Skilled Advice- Ask the Experts). They might be able to give you some ideas about your little girl.

Good luck.

Could it be a side effect of the medication?
