When I get new birds, I do treat them with Scatt just in case they might be carrying the air sac mites. Gouldians are one species that are more susceptible to air sac mites, and it wouldn't hurt to treat them.

Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier for members to help you.

Hello, and welcome to the Forum,

You will find that there are many members on here, who have Gouldian Finches (myself included).

They are wonderful little birds.
It goes without saying, that they are some of the most beautiful and colourful finches around. With that said, they also (usually) have the personality to match, being laid back, gentle and sweet, with a delightful whispering little song.

Regarding proactive treatments for air sac mites:
I believe, that many treat all their new birds with SCATT, as soon as they get them. There are several threads on here about the treatments for new birds while in quarantine. Which leads to the next topic....

It is a very good idea, to keep all new birds in quarantine from your other birds, so as not to introduce any possible diseases to your existing flock.

Do you have your birds already, or are you still in the planning stages? Would love to hear more about what got you interested in Finches, and what other species you've had before.

This is a great Forum, with lot's of wonderful members who are more than willing to answer your questions.

Warm regards and best wishes

Your bird will be much happier with another gouldian finch. Are you planning to have more than one? They are beautiful birds.
