Homemade splint?

Hey guys!

So I bought a couple of finches over the weekend and one of them has what I assume to be a broken foot. His foot's bent to the side and his toes are all curled in on each other. He can still move them, they're just not pointing in the right direction. Is it possible to build a splint or something to set the foot and keep the toes where they should be while it heals?

(I'll try and get pics asap, but Aphid's really hard to photograph. bugger doesn't stay still.)

Pictures would be good, but what you are describing, sounds like it might be a deformity of the foot (either genetic, or might have occured in the nest).
If caught while the bird is very young (still a nestling), then occasionally it can be fixed. If the bird is older, then the odds are it will probably not work.

I have, and have had birdies in the past with handicaps, and they do quite well without intervention. If he can perch and use this foot, I would just leave it.
