Male zebra finch foot injury

Post by DesmondTheFinch » Wed Jul 26, 2017 1:43 am

Today I noticed my Zebra acting a little strange, he was standing on all of the perches unlike the others who normally crouch, I took him out of the cage to examin his legs and feet. We recently used Scatt mite drops because all of my finches had scaley face. Anyhow I got ahold of him and noticed that his back toe was completely scabbed and swollen, his feet were also a bit spongey, I thought that was a good sign compared to super scaley because of mites but I could be wrong, I hope my little guy is okay, please let me know what I can do to help him. It seems to irritate him a lot because he doesn't put much weight on that leg. I'd attach a photo but I'm having troubles with doing so. To describe it by best its about a centimeter long from the end of his toe and up, its very scabbed and its red and swollen.

I would grab him and soak his foot and leg in an epsom salt/warm water solution for a little while. Then apply a bit of polysporin or something similar to help get rid of the infection.

Let me know how he does.
