Hello everyone i have a question earlier this week i noticed my finch was laying eggs she spents most of her time in the nest more than the male does and i have been noticing her droppings look different like bigger she does not look puffed up and i see her a few times a day eating and she even bathes.Their diet consists of pellets mixed with seeds they eat that everyday and veggies every other day when i give them veggies they eat that in the morning and give them seed at night and i sprinkle both with egg shells. Is it normal that she poops different??

When Mama birds sit on their eggs, they hold their poop for longer periods of time, therefore have bigger splatty poops when they do come out of the nest.

As long as she's eating, acting and looking normal, all is well :D .

Thank You for replying I was worried that it could be egg bound because I read that could be the cause for bigger droppings they are probably 3 or 4 times bigger than usual. It did cross my mind that it could be due to her holding in her poop while being in the nest but i was still worried.

I have another finch with eggs, are there any things you could recommend for me to give them while they are nesting? They have spray millet, cuttlebone i have been giving them vitasol in the water 3 times a week and this week i started giving them veggies 3 times a week and i sprinkle egg shells that i made into powder into their food everyday, is this enough or do they need more vitamins?

Hi,

I would get them used to egg food, so that they will feed it to their babies once they're hatched. Grated hard boiled eggs or dry egg food is fine too, depending on your choice (although hard boiled eggs are my preference).

Good luck with the coming babies.

hi this kin of drppping eespecialy when siting on eggs could be a sing of constipation or at least a beggining of it. So full veggies concomber fe.
U should cut the protéines since they sit in,my way is to roll back the egg food once na week as extra candy or 3days before hatch, same day or the day after hatcheling sure because my birds are used with egg food

Hi thank you for replying, i just noticed that the eggs have hatched i will give them some egg today they havent had it in a few days. But are there any fruits or veggies that i should avoid due to its size or texture? Btw i try to boil most of the veggies i give them.

Thank You i will give it to them tomorrow. What should i do in case the babies dont make it, Take them out right away or wait a few days maybe weeks to see what happens??
A few hours ago i gave all of my birds veggies and both of the parents came out of the nest and i looked inside the nest without touching them and staying as far away as possible and one of the babies was on his back and i think there were two more but none of them seemed to move much.

OhNayeli it depends how old they are or if they have just been fed then they will sleep if you look closely they will be breathing the parents usually leave the nest if there chicks have died.

Oh yeh I forgot to mention my birds absolutely love water cress
