I think I used that supplementation schedule when they were breeding. Now I think I'll supplement once a week for the calcium with D3 and every other week for the multivitamin, as they should be getting enough of most nutrients from their diet.

Powder is ok but as yerself and Babs have been discussing is that a lot of birds fling their seed about all over the place and I'd be most jubious if the power is still on the seed, I'd then be constantly wandering if the birds would then be getting the correct weekly dose that I'd want to administer,

Incidentally if yer give yer birds soaked seed I rekon that this could perhaps be better with the powdered supplement as it'll obviously stick better to the seed

I was cooking and I finally got a chance to read it all. Thanks Elana!

Now if we all only find that perfect not-too-much-or-too-little balance. Shame our windows block out the sunlight's most important ingredient.

My flippin' windows are covered in ice....
We get some light, but I don't think any Vit D can come through them , brrrr.....

I just got some plain white proso millet for the large hopper feeder. Now I just need a colander to separate millet from the other seeds in the older mix.

That's part of the reason why I prefer putting powder on the soft food; not because they aren't getting any of it from the seed, but because it's easier to monitor their intake of soft food. They usually go crazy over the soft food, so if I first put in a small piece with the supplement, they often eat it all.

I've never given them soaked seed, though I once germinated a small handful of it. How much water does it take to soak?

A fifty percent increase in productivity? Just by adding some D3? That's massive! It really goes to show the benefit of good nutrition.

Oh good grief woman, that's exactly what would happen if I left the window open , and what's more, once I opened the window it would freeze like that and I wouldn't be able to close it again .

I hope it helps. I wish my kids ate soft food as greedily as yours. Mine eat it, but they pick at it here and there and dont clean their plates.

Mine are still rather picky; the only soft foods I can get them to eat reliably are eggs and broccoli. And for some reason, the gouldians won't even eat those unless they are in the flight with the others. Once they start eating it, though, it often disappears in a matter of minutes.
