Prolapsed Lovebird
Hello everyone so i have a problem with my lovebird which i think is a male, he seems to have a cloacal prolapse. I had been noticing for a few days that he had poop on his vent he was missing feathers around it aswell and it was sticking out a bit. I kept placing warm water so he could bathe. Yesterday i saw that the skin there looked a bit pink i took him out and cleaned the area and it started sticking out more. Everytime he poops i clean his vent and apply Ky jelly. I read somewere that this might have to do with birds that have a strong connection to their owners and i think this might be the cause because lately he has been more needy and kind of attached and this is something i never noticed he had. What would you guys recomend me to do??
He is eating well and drinking water as usual his poop also looks normal i separated him from his sibling/parent dont what they are.

Holy Crow, poor little guy.
Vet, as soon as possible!!! Without treatment, this can be fatal.
Here is some information, which may be helpful to understand this situation:

I'm so glad he didnt have to have surgery. I know he doesn't like that cone at all.
Sounds like the care you gave before the Vet visit helped keep in under control. Good work!
So I guess the medication reduces the swelling?
I can imagine his "needy" behavior is because he hurts, and he's looking for comfort/safety.

I know i took it off he looked scared and couldnt even reach his food but he already ate and is more relaxed so i will put it back on and will let him get used to it we went knowing that surgery could be the only option she said it might be a hernia because the skin looks a bit raw or it might be that he has been biting his vent.Babs wrote: OhNayeli

I'm glad he's being treated.
I imagine that his poor bum must be so sore, poor little fellow.
I hope the treatment works, and that he'll be feeling better soon.

I know he acts completely normal but he does seem to be itchy sometimes. And i know i hope it works too because now my other lovebird has to go to the vet aswell.

Re: Prolapsed Lovebird
There is like a bulge around the size of a grape on the area above the vent. I noticed it last friday i think it might be a female im not sure ive seen eggs and last week there was an egg at the corner of the cage. She eats and drinks water ive also seen her play and she flies very well she escaped her cage on tuesday lol. I tough she could be eggbound but i feel like many days have passed and it looks the same. It doesnt bother her, and her vent looks completely normal.

Oh my , you and your birds sure have had some troubled times.
I am glad to hear that your little boy is doing a little better, and I hope it is nothing serious and he keeps doing well. I am keeping your little girl in my thoughts, I hope it is nothing serious.

My guess would have been egg bound as well (your girl), but as you say, an eggbound bird normally would be behaving very differently from what you describe, but I would still keep a very close watch over her. When does she go to the Vet?
Do either of your birds suffer from constipation by any chance?
