Hello everybody,
Just a little encouragement for anybody who wonders if there Finch will recover from feather loss around the head. Over the last few years I have had two gouldians one male one female that have lost feathers around their head both cases were severe. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the female and she was much worse. One was treated with scatt and one was treated with S76. One took a year-and-a-half the other one took two years but both fully recovered leaving no evidence behind.

Hi Kyle,

Definitely mites from what I can tell.

Your boy has recovered beautifully.

I would strongly recommend getting some Feather Fast. After the SCATT treatment, it helps the feathers come in a lot quicker. I was actually amazed by this product, and that doesn't happen very often, lol.

Hi Elana, you recommended that to me before I'm going to try it for sure. :) Out of curiosity what do you prefer scatt or s-76 or have you had to use them?

I know, I was just joking before about starting to sound like a rep for the company, lol.

As to your question:

SCATT, is a more straight forward treatment,
a 1 time treatment, with another 1 time treatment in 21 days (if needed).

S76 (Iverlux), is a bit more complicated with mixing with water, removing the bird's water the night before, so many days here, so many days there, making sure all the birds get a drink, etc.

Both SCATT and S76, are the same basic ingredient, but the method of treatment is different.

Honestly, I prefer SCATT, because then I know that each bird was treated, without any doubts. However catching so many birds and treating them is extremely stressful for the birds, and very nerve wracking and difficult for me.

And so....
If you only have a few birds to treat, and if the situation is an emergency, then I would opt for SCATT.
If you have many birds in large flights, who are difficult to catch, then I would recommend S76.

So in my opinion, there are pluses and minuses to both.

Scatt is moxidectin and active for 21 days ... S76 or iverlux is ivermectin and active for only a few hours, that is why you have multiple treatments

I also prefer scatt

Looking good! :YMDAYDREAM: His feathers came back beautifully! Thanks for letting us know how long it took, so we all have a realistic expectation of the time it takes for the feathers to come back fully after a battle with those little critters.
