Hello everybody
I have a female Gouldian with a overgrown beak. I can trim it but I'm a little worried about how much I have to take off. Is this something that will continually grow back? I got her last year as I swapped a few juveniles with a local breeder. As she got a little older her beak grew too long and she had a delayed molt she is about a year and a half old.

Hi Kyle,
I had a Canary girl with the same problem some years ago, only hers was on the bottom.
I used to clip the tip off with nail clippers, just to even it out with the top part of her beak.
Yes, it had to be done periodically to keep it trim.
She might be stuck in molt and having problems, because she can't eat properly, so doesn't eat as much as she should.
If I were you, I would keep her out of your breeding program, just as a pet.

Thanks Elana definitely have no intention of breeding her. I have a separate cage that there is always one or two in. Weather stuck in molt or some issue that I want to keep separated from the others. With all your birds and must be the same for you?

Whenever there are issues, birds will get pulled out and placed in a small hospital cage for observation.
Right now (knock on wood) everyone is doing ok.
With the beak and molting issue...
Trim the beak, offer her extra heat and lots of egg food, and (you guessed it... lol) some feather fast, and she'll be good in no time
