Trimming nails

Trimming nails is my least favorite thing to do, and so I don't do it nearly as often as I should. They all panic as soon as I get out THE NET; they fly around like crazy birds, they wiggle and squirm around in my hand, and their little feet are so tiny I can barely see what I'm doing. I never cut enough off because I'm so afraid of hitting a vein. Tonight I got this on Amazon, and I'm hoping this might make things much easier. It's lighted, magnifies 5 times, and It was only $12.95!

Yes, cutting the nails is not a fun job, especially with the tiny Waxbills. The actual cutting is not the problem, but catching them is a major problem.

That gadget looks interesting indeed. I hope it works for you.

I usually slap my glasses on for the job (sometimes upside down, lol) .

That light looks interesting. I use a magnifying glass that hangs around my neck or stands on the table (standing on the table is easiest). I found it in the craft area at Walmart. I like the idea of additional light with this one, I think I will try one myself.

Here's an update - this morning there was blood on the floor of one of the cages. My boy tore the nail off of his toe, and his nails weren't even that long. But I grabbed the new lighted magnifier and trimmed up the rest of his nails. It was great - I made one cut on each nail instead of two or three. I could see very clearly where the quick was, everything was in great detail. I'm trimming everyone's nails tomorrow, this light makes it easy and I have no worries about cutting into a quick.

So glad to hear that it's working well for you :-BD .

I would put a dab of polysporin or something similar on the spot where he ripped his nail, just to be on the safe side.
