Post by haroun » Mon Dec 25, 2017 6:09 pm

There 10 day i bought a OB zebra finch male. The seller was not taking care of them it was very cold day with windchill of - 3°c.
I put him under heat bulb (200W) and give him vit and acidified water, pure grassseeds as diet, but im not getting good results t. I took today to avian Vet he told me to put him under. BAYTRIL antibiotics for 5days and after that Avc or acidified water as he suspect coccidiosis.

Poor bird.

Please, don't buy because you pity a bird. That may not help the bird and actually encourages the seller to sell unhealthy animals.

An ill bird should be kept alone. They would prefer to be on their own if they had a chance to choose.

A new bird should always get a quarantine up to four weeks. For the benefit of the new bird(s) and to prevent any previously unseen illness to spread among the birds you already have.

Give the bird a warm, quiet place, let him be peaceful. It's undergoing lots of stress.

Fernando
this young black cheek had problems when he left weaning, he was suffering from anemia. I put it with this orange chest so they shake and stay warm at night because even this BC needed the heat, they are very friends and I saw no sign of aggression between them ..
that's my way to take care of weak bird i never put it alone especially when it has cold .
btw i remove the BC it has completly recover and start to sing hes has only 2 months
but be sure i respect the quarantine.

I would be feeding a quality, varied seed mix for finches and the same water that you would give all your birds. Provide foraging dish, reptile feeding dish, or place some paper or even a flat rock on the floor so they can get off the wire. An herb dish with dried greens, herbs in it would be good too. Even some timothy hay. The diet and environment are most important for your birds health.

I would recommend collidal silver. I use it for all sick birds- it works overnight. Only thing I don't think it helps so far is egg binding.
