Hopping and jerking sideways is not a sign of pain. Maybe seizure. If an egg cracked inside her, she would have died immediately. You will never know if she would have lived or not.

Hmmm no it was not a seizure. More skittering side ways then? Oh okay must have been very bad egg binding. Or she laid an egg too big and damaged her insides maybe. But I think she would have died, she was too far gone

Flight Feathers So sorry you lost her, but it sounds like you did the right thing. It could have been neurological or any number of causes, but not letting them suffer is best, in my opinion anyway.

Sally thank you very much. I hate seeing them suffer and she has had something wrong with her for a year now, and it had gradually gotten worse until it got to the point where she was about to die. I have never had to put a bird down before, if I think I can save them I usually don't give up but there really didn't look like there was anything I could do for her this time. And I agree that not letting them suffer is best.
