Female finch can't fly very well.

So I thought I should ask for people's advice on here. So last year I bought a normal female zebra finch ( this was back near the start of the year ) she's always been a smaller finch and always not seemed 'quite right' . it has slowly gotten worse and worse. the way she sits, it could look like egg binding but she lays eggs fine. And she has been egg bound once before and it was a bit different. She is an extremely flighty bird and seems so much more terrified than any of my other finches. when she tries to fly she can barely get up before she's fallen back to the ground with a thud. She also has a tendency to fly Into the wall when she is really scared, and then she simply bounces back off it And falls to the ground. She also can never sit still and relaxed like the other finches- her head will always be moving or quivering and her body too. I am attaching a photo of how she sits most of the time. I know there is definitely something wrong with her because none of my other finches do this.

She can no longer get off the ground now, I took her out of the cage and she could only get off the ground a little bit before she fell back down and then she started skittering side ways. I understand that I will never be able to breed her again. Does anyone have any ideas on what's wrong with her and also what should I do with her?

Am thinking it may be something to do with an egg cracking inside of her poor finch. She had runny ish stuff coming out, possibly part of an egg?

Maybe neurological inherited problem. She is probably extra frightened of you because she cannot fly good and would be easy prey. Provide care as you have been, and watch that the others don't pick on her. If they do, put her in another cage next to them with clean water and good food. Maybe Lovezebs can help you more.

She was in a lot of pain and had something very seriously wrong with her. I ended up getting her put down this arvo as she was definitely going to die...

She use to be able to fly much better and she would be half hopping half jerking sideways on the ground which is a sign of a lot of pain, poor finch.

Flight Feathers did you try her with anything like iodine first or anything sometimes the vets don’t see them how we do and put them down without finding out what’s actually wrong

She might of even had a nail that ripped trough her toe this happens to one of my grandmothers birds and it couldn’t stand on perches and wouldn’t fly because it knew it couldn’t land now it’s nail fell off and it’s grown a new one, I give my gran an idine block and she was putting a little bit in its bath water every day

I hope ur little finchie was really I’LL and atkeast she had a good life with u [-o<

Yes she had the same thing my friends finch died from. After this stage she would have gotten internal bleeding and drowned in her own blood most likely. We think an egg cracked inside her because there was stuff coming out. Was all swollen up too. She definitely wouldn't have lived, and she's had something wrong with her ever since I had gotten her and the flying had gradually gotten worse.

No I don't think it was a nail.

Thank you, I hope she had a good life.

Yes it's horrible. This is the worst egg binding I have seen tho. Last time she was egg bound it was no where near that bad!
