This is a follow-up to my last topic regarding my female zebra's balding condition. Thankfully, she hasn't lost any more feathering in the under parts of her body. I noticed that her droppings are a milky white liquid. Is this diarrhea? I notice no other symptoms like sluggishness for she is very active, a good eater, and loves to fly around. She does not keep her feathers ruffled like many birds with that disorder. Seems like this white stuff always leaves some remnants on the opening of where her poop comes out. Any ideas?

sounds like she is having a bad trot.The white part in droppings is the urine/urate part.she has some symptoms of a bowel obstruction.If this is the case has she eaten any foreign material?(stones wood fibre)that you have noticed?
She could have a twisted bowel?Has she had a accident?
Possibly have a round worm blockage?
tumour,egg retention,probley less likely with current symptoms.
stress ,anxiety will cause loose bowel movements.but you should still have the faeces part in that as well.(the black/green part)
with no other syptoms this is all I can think off.

wow... are you confused now? I am. Do you have any NV powder that you can give her? When my birds have this it always seems to help them. If she is eating well and not constantly , I think she should be okay.

To Gomer: I don't think she had any kind of accident (at least not that I know of) nor has she had any foreign material ingested. Grit maybe? But the petstore I bought her from instructed me to provide the birds with it.
To dfcauley: I've never heard of NV powder-can I buy that at the pet store? I do hope that she'll be fine and that her feathers would grow back soon.

I have not heard of NV powder either?What is it?And used for?The git should be OK.Has she plenty of nesting material?If she hasn't this may cause stress,and possibly feather plucking for nest materials.If she is thin treat for worms.And give a little cod liver oil.
Maybe this NV powder will fix her.

I bought mine from ladygouldian.com. It helps birds suffering from stress and diarrhea. You can go on there and read about it. I have had great success with it and keep it on hand at all times You just add it to their water. Also, I never give my birds grit. I give them either crushed oyster shells or preferably Dr Rob's F-Vite. They also have that at ladygouldian.com.

Looks like a less expensive alternative with the same purpose. I do hope that'll stop the diarrhea if that's what she has.

I didnt supply them with any nesting material or a nest so they wouldn't be stimulated to breed. The bald spot hasnt grown any larger as of late but it's the poop problem Im more concerned of at the moment. Looks like that stuff is always stuck on her behind. I have some gouldians that eat a lot of mealworms when there feeding chicks and there poop has a lot of white in it.Have you seen this link http://www.finchniche.com/f-poopology.mgi it might help.

Thanks B CAMP! I noticed the bird's poop had some solid substance in it this afternoon but sometimes she still poops the all white milky fluid and sometimes a clear transparent fluid (probably pee). I have not given them melaworms and they refuse to eat any greens. I was scared to read that when there is red stuff in the poop that it could be a sign of internal bleeding because I did notice some kind of dark fluid coming out one time and only today, not sure if it's red though. I'll have to observe very closely tomorrow. She is still eating well and very active so now I'm so confused!

Looked at Nv.That's what it is an electrolyte .We have different brands here.Yes it is good for stressed birds especially when shipping Etc. gives them a boost.I use a sulfadime based medicine for stressed birds also very good but its more for intestinal control stops any bad bacteria developing in gut.

Mine sometimes excrete either a milky white or sometimes a clear jobby, but the next one will be back to normal, if the bird is eating well and has a balanced diet then nothing to worry about I think, sometimes their little bodies just flush their systems out from time to time but if it persists then maybe check it out for worms first, it happened to Raff last year, 3 days of antibiotics cleared it up no problem at home.

I put white paper on the floor of the cage to make it easier to observe the bird's droppings. Seems like she's back to normal as I see green stuff. Both of the birds excrete the same kind of droppings now although there is still some of the stuff sticking to the female's bottom. Oh, well.
