I know these products are to help birds go through a moult faster, but I'm wondering:

How old do young birds have to be before I give this to them? Do they have to be 2 or 3 months old? Younger? Can they be too young to be given this stuff?

Liz, I have Morning Bird's Feather Fast, and I just checked the label. It doesn't mention anything about age, just says it is for birds going thru the molt. I would assume then that it is not needed until they are going thru that first juvie molt into adult colors. I have given it to my young Gouldians when they were doing their juvie molt and had no problems, but I'm thinking I probably didn't give it to any birds that were less than 3 months old. The label does say not to use any other products containing vitamin supplements while using Feather Fast, and my young birds get the Breeders Blend along with their parents, until they start molting.

I also use the Feather Fast. I sprinkle it like salt on any wet food. (egg food, soaked seeds) I have already begun giving it to my two juvies that have started molting. They are about three months old.

Okay that's great - so when I see coloured feathers coming in - then I'll presume it's safe to add it to their food.

Thanks Donna and Sally!
