Okay thanks, I’m just worried the hernia will get bigger after I give him away?

Flight Feathers

Hmm, he might be okay if he's still acting normally. If you're still planning on rehoming him, keep an eye on him for the next few days to make sure nothing changes.

It's unfortunate about the vets; there are hardly any avian specialists, and those that are often don't work with finches or other small birds. And then there's the price tag. A lot of us can't justify spending a couple hundred dollars on treatment that may not help.

That is very true about avian vets. And there’s also the thought that a finch may not even survive a treatment, as they could go into shock or anything like that.

The finch probably won’t be going to a new home for quite a while. I’ll definitely keep an eye on him.

Let the bird live! Why is it every time something might have some pain, some people think you should kill it? Heaven forbid you ever get a toothache!

Well the 2 finches went to their new home but sadly the hernia baby’s retired father died two days after they got them :? But at least I had warned them that he could die any day. But annoying for them, so now they’ll have to buy another male zeb as a friend for the hernia baby (now named Snowflake)

Depends on the condition of the bird. If it looks like it’s about to die and can’t get off the ground then that’s when I put it down... I don’t put a bird down every time it gets hurt tho obviously! I have had loads and loads of injured and sick birds but only ever put one bird down!
