Fraza

This leg does not look right to me Fraser.

If you look at the arrow, and the circled area below.... there is something wrong there....

It looks like there might be some swelling, possibly trapped infection in there, not sure.

If the infection is trapped, bathing with iodine may not do the trick. Maybe try soaking in some warm water with some epsum salts, to see if it will open and drain out.

Good luck.

Well thats good that the finch acts perfectly fine. If it starts to look like the finch is suffering tho then that is when I’d put it down.

Oh no he’s not getting put down he’s still fighting and he’s not suffering even if he does start to suffer I won’t let it go down straght away I’ll try different medication but hopefully he will keep getting better he’s actually started coming out onto the hole in the nest now and tweeting to coco and the other foster parents

Yeah, I put my birds down when they are really suffering and don’t look like they will get better (have only put down one bird) but not everyone does. It’s the owners decision. Sometimes breeders have to make tough discissions but definitley don’t put it down if it seems fine.

Given the choice, the bird wants to live no matter what!

If they are already half dead may as well let it die a quick death rather than a slow one tho :?

The only bird I’ve put down is my finch that had something wrong with it for a year and then in the end it couldn’t get off the ground and when it did it flew straight into the wall or went half way up and fell back down with a bang - poor bird. And it had something wrong with its bottom. It clearly wasn’t going to get better considering it had something wrong with it for over a year and it was in the most terrible state... poor poor birdie. It just got worse and worse.

Yeah it’s still fine so I wouldn’t put it down either. My canary had a broken toe hanging by a thread and it healed upside down :D On the other hand I had a finch missing a toe and it’s leg wrenched backwards and it died... I hate putting birds down, but I also hate it when they die slowly over a week. I only put a bird down if it’s already dying anyway.
