Two Questions

Post by CathyCraftz » Sat Jul 21, 2018 12:51 am

My two hens had a bath today and the pied hen had droopy wings and heavy breathing afterwards but it is better now. Is it normal?
My normal grey hen has a long nail with a very long quick so there is only a tiny bit of nail that can be clipped off, but it is risky. Should I leave the nail as it is when I clip their nails?
Have a nice day!
Sincerely, Cathy

In reply to the second question, you could put some rough stones like lava rock or sandstone in for them to walk on. It might help keep the nails trim and wear them down some. I have some lava rock with a screw in it that attaches to the side of the cage, and they use it as a perch. Put the stones near food and water and in a foraging box, if they have one. I have heard that as the nail trims, the quick will eventually move back.
