Balding baby society

Hey ya'll

One of my society finches is starting to go bald. I never see him/her being picked on. Everyone seems to get along. It fledged the nest about 3 weeks ago and it was immediately obvious that it was the runt. Tiny little guy and still is.

I think it's just stressed by the other birds so I put it and another bird in a separate cage. The two of them get along very well. Are there any specific dietary supplements that will help the little bugger recover quicker?

thank you

Do either or both of the parents happen to be crested?

I'm sorry, but I do not know what crested means.

All of the other babies and the parents seem to have all their feathers if that's what you mean

What I mean is do both parents have smooth feathering on top of their heads or are they crested? Crested is when the head feathers have kind of a swirl to them. Does anyone here have Cresteds so they can show what I mean? Why I was asking was I had read if you bred Crested ones together they can cause balding. Not sure if that is true or not as I have not studied Societies much. Maybe someone els can help you better with your question than I can?

Yes, I have read this also. I have three crested society finches. I will look for a picture. Can't take one now.....they have all gone to bed.

Thanks guys and gals! I've never seen a crested society.

The parents are not crested, so that may not be the issue. I really think it was crowded by the bigger birds. Hopefully by having it in a different cage it can recover.
