I just caught a male gould of mine attacking 2 society chicks about to fledge. They were the only 2 birds in the nest. When I shooed him out, he went right back in seconds later and started on them again. I have removed the nest but has anyone else heard of this? Please advise. The chicks don't look good either, so I'm crossing my fingers that some TLC from the adults will help heal them. Thanks.

I haven't heard of this with Goulds. Did he have a nearby nest? Or is he the Daddy of some of your hatchlings, or eggs? Maybe he is just being territorial, but in the extreme. Good luck with the Society chicks.

Thanks for answering. He's not a dad nor, to my knowledge, is he even bonded with any of my hens. Maybe he IS and is looking to make a nest as the other nests/boxes were "not available". I have moved all of the chicks out to another cage (with 4 of the adult societies) - just really strange and I'm SO glad I was watching them! The society chicks seem to be doing better and are earing. Thanks!

or he could be the odd bird out, no partner. so he has the %#$&@ on and is being disruptive/destructive. I would have moved him to another cage and given him a nagging hen of his own. (hmm wonder if that comment is going to get me in trouble again  )

LMAO! Thanks, all! He'll be moving as soon as I do some cage cleaning. Typical MALE! (Just kidding)
