Broken Leg.... Maybe?

one of my male RCCB's got out of his cage and slammed against a window. i'm pretty sure he has a broken leg because when he perches his right leg dangles limp and he grips with the left. he also uses his wing as a support when he perches, he seems kinda wobbly without him using his wing for balance. i've called the vet and am waiting to hear backl from them. i'm almost positive there is nothing they can do except for me to gove him heat and calcium supplements. i've shaved part of a cuttle bone in his water, food, and treats. is there anything else i can do?

im really freaking out :!:

If it were my bird - I would have it in a very small cage to reduce flying/landing. Perhaps without a perch. Make sure the heatlamp is there and (though I haven't heard of putting shaved cuttlebone in the water) add Guardian Angel to the water if available. Try to keep him calm - low light or nightlight only.

Good luck and keep us posted. My birds escape their cages now and again too.

Can they heal their broken leg?

I would imagine a finch with a broken leg could grow back together, but most likely not in the correct spot. Even with an avian vet putting a tiny split on it might not set it correctly. Don't give up too much hope....my Gouldian hen broke her wing and after several weeks she is flying again and holds it in the correctly place against her body. You would never know she ever broke it, well, I actually I broke it. :(
