Hi There

I am pretty new to bird owning (about 1 year). I have a nice pair of Spice Finches, but the female has recently developed a bald patch around the front part of her neck (beak side). She also seems to be sitting in front of the heat lamp to take naps instead of on the high perch next to her companion. When she sits in front of the heat lamp she sort of lowers her head a bit, which she doesn't do on the high perch.
She is eating (especially lettuce) and doesn't seem very lethargic. Is she sick, or is this normal?
Any advice you have I would really appreciate. We recently lost our 11 year old dog to cancer, I can't take another loss right now...I hope she is okay.

So sorry for the loss of your dog. I know how difficult that can be as I have experienced the same thing.

It does sound as if your finch may be a little ill. It is good that you have heat for it. That is the best thing. Not sure what the bald spot could be.
It could be a number of things. Have you ever treated them for mites?
There are alot of great sprays you can get for this. Also if possible I would get some NV powder which is great for sick birds. It replaces electrolytes and helps build up their immune system.
