Thanks to all for the wonderful advice. The S76 has been ordered and should arrive soon. I'm anxious to see an improvement.

keep a heat lamp on your birds in the meantime. keep it to one side of the cage so they can move away from the heat if not needed.

I ordered S76 from ladygouldian.com and it arrived in a few days. They were wonderful to do business with and included a note and a free sample of powder to put into the birds' water for 2-3 days prior to S76 treatment. The powder helps the birds' immune system to help them with the stress of treatment. So I have treated their water and tomorrow I will start the S76. It will be wonderful to see them feeling better. Thanks again to everyone for the help.

My five Gouldies seem to be doing much better. They are flying more, seem more alert, but there is a new problem I noticed. The two brother Gouldies have resumed singing, but I can barely hear them. I believe they are the healthiest of the birds, and I did not notice ASM symptoms in them. After the S76 treatments though, there is this volume problem. Has anyone noticed this also and will they get past this problem?

Ivermectine (pulmosan of beaphar) 1 drop for canaries / finch sized birds and 2 for parrot types. Then got to do it again 4 weeks after.

And 4 days (2 + 2 days) oral ivermectine oral (brand name promectine).

Unfortunately have to use it as one of my fifes has some early signs

Following the air sac treatments with S76, my guys are doing better. Two brothers are back to singing again, but it's very hard to hear them. It has gotten a bit better, but they still do not have good volume to the songs. Has anyone experienced this?

Usually by the time you hear and see symptoms they have had ASM for quite a while, it doesn't just happen over night.
A positive diagnoses can be done by wetting the feathers on the neck and trans-illuminate the trachea with a bright penlight. It's best done in a dark room, the mites can be seen as dark pinhead size moving spots in the trachea.

If you don't see ASM's then your bird may have a respiratory infection .

I will try it. only 1 is showing asm symptoms atm atleast, just finished doing meds and cleaning every nook and cranny

Hi. I've been reading the forum, but I'd like to tell you my case-and ask some questions.
I have two zebra finches ,got them around 8 months ago.Two females, a white and a "normal" coloured. The white sometimes breaths with an open beak-but yesterday I also heard a clicking sound.Just to make sure I ordered S76 on fab finches(I'm in the UK,and I keep them in my work room,so it would be difficult to catch them, though they are pretty tame)
The thing is, she sings and beeps as loudly as ever, flying around, and dancing on the lamp(build a nest there twice before) No open beak breathing all day.
So she looks healthy, but the occasional open beak thing and the clicking sound makes me worried and I will try the S76 treatment in their water bowl. Do you think it's a good decision? Is it okay to do a treatment even if they possibly have no air sack mites?

Many people treat preventatively, so it should be fine to treat them, especially since you suspect a problem.

Thanks . I will treat them then. No signs of air sack mites today. But it's a good precaution.
