I trimmed their nails

I was watching the birds this morning and I noticed the male's nails were so long they were curling under when he perched. So I decided to trim their nails. I found that one of the female's "thumbs" was broken or mutilated at some time because the nail is crooked and barely has a quick. The male's nails were easier to trim but I did cut the very, very tip of the quick on one. I had flour beside me and it stopped it.

The funny part was that about a minute after I removed the female from the cage, the male started singing. He never does that when I'm around. I guess he missed her.

Excellent going, Mike! Good you had the flour onhand too - smart thinking! It's pretty easy to trim their nails, isn't it?

I sure was easy. But my hands were all sweaty. I wasn't too worried about squashing them, just about crushing their wings.

The male perches much nicer now but I think I forgot one of the female's toes.
