I think my female Green Singer has broken her wing. The wing tip is kind of pointing upward and the bird cant fly any more. Is there anything that can be done and will it ever heal ? I'm really depressed now.

So sorry to hear that. I don't know how to mend a wing by splinting or if it can be done, but I had a zebra finch that had the same thing happen. It healed at an upward angle. She lived to be 10 years old hopping around the bottom of the aviary. I always kept a water tube and low seed dish on the floor. She seemed very content, when other zebras would fledge she would hop around and take care of the babies. The babies instintively would cuddle with her on the ground. When I needed to catch her she could fly for about 5 foot, 6 inches off the ground but could not fly straight. She became very trusting and tame and seldom ran from me. I lost her just this past spring.

Thanks for the reply, Cando. While I know it is possible for a bird to live with a broken wing, it would make me feel sad to see it live out its life not being able to fly. It hasn't been even two weeks since I got this female for my male and now it has a broken wing. And the thing is I keep them in a plexigalss cage which means it isnt possible to put enough perches for the poor thing to hop on to the top of the cage.

Yes, it would be pretty hard for a green singer to live on the bottom of a cage. I was fortunate to have a large outdoor aviary. Give it time, maybe she will heal where she will be able to fly.

This sounds horrible but it worked, for those of you who know me will know I have a few mates who also keep birds...anyway..one bird got caught in some mesh and broke it's wing, he pulled the wing straight much to the displeasure of the bird and then after the wing was straightened out he cellotaped a matchstick to it and and wrapped it around the birds body...2 weeks

The bird is fine now.

Need a separate cage with no perches and food and water easy to get to
