tail whipping

My little bird has a swollen hindend red around vent It is a male so not egg bound for sure. It also whips its tail once in a while like it is constipated but it has droppings. whats wrong with him

Several things may help get appropriate answers for you and your bird - where are you located? what kind of bird is it? can you post pics? Nothing describes the situation better than photos!

its a goulian about 1-1/2 yrs old and I live in Minnesota I have no way to post pics sorry. he is still active and sings hops around eats very well etc.

Could it maybe be a prolapse? Is the swollen red part sticking out of the vent? Google prolapsed cloaca and see if that's what yours looks like (warning, the images are quite graphic).

No there is nothing hanging out of vent area.Or near area Its just very red and swollen with feathers around the area missing. and whips tail up and down otherwise acts healthy Do they get worms? whats symtoms for that?
