Apple cider vinegar

Post by cindy » Tue Sep 22, 2009 6:47 pm

If I use a quart of water how much apple cider vinegar do I use? i heard this was good for digestion and to improve the flora in the bird's gut.

I use 1 drop per 1 oz of water, both drinking and bath.
But I don't remember where I got that dosage from.
I use it to slow down the sliminess that develops in both the water tube and the bath tray.

Is it safe to put apple cider vinegar and vitamin supplement at the same time?

Can't help you there, as I don't use vitamins in the water. I do add iodine to the water once a week, but I don't do the ACV at the same time, nor do I use ACV when I am adding liquid calcium to their water.

I have been using 1 Tbs. ACV to 1 gallon of water, but cannot remember where I read about this dosage or why I do this amount!

The only place / time I use ACV is when I'm soaking soakseed. Then I rinse really well prior to mixing the soakseed with my hardboiled eggs.

I know the ACV aids in digestion and is good for the feathers in bathing, also clears up scum in the bath, but is there any danger of it being harmful to the eggs of nesting birds?

I don't think there is any harm to breeding birds, eggs, or hatchlings, as I have used it all during breeding cycles.

Great! Thanks, Sally. I have just started using it recently. My birds turned their nose up at it, at first. Only the Society would put his foot in the bath, no one else would use it. I did the recommended ratio of ACV to H20. I find that frisbees make good birdbaths. I decreased the amount of ACV to acclimate them to it and then increased it to the regular amount. Everyone is happy now,.. splashing up a storm. :D

How much are you using? I put it in my bird bath today for the first time. I only put one teaspoon per galloon.

I think that's about what I'm using now. It is still weak, but they are used to it and having no problems. I cut back to only a few drops per quart at first, then increased it daily. They look great, too.

I use it every day. And there are never too many questions. Usually it's me asking  I'm new at using it, also, so someone else probably knows more than I. :)

I put the ACV 1 drop per 1 oz of water every time into both their drinking water and bath water. Although sometimes I will increase the dosage in the bath just a little bit (10 drops for 8 oz water) cuz of the poop they leave in the water. I did not see any behavior change when I started putting ACV in the water.

And it did cut down the rate that the water tubes would get slimy.

When I soak seeds, I put 2 drops ACV into about 1 oz water.

I have never soaked seed or millet...I am getting millet in an order tomorrow. I will have to try this.

Can you soak it in cranberry, orange, lemon or organic fruit juice?
