I am planning to treat my finches with SCATT. Is scatt(ASM Tx) safe for days old baby finch? or Should i wait until the baby finch fledges?

The dosage for ASM treatment, regardless of which it is, is based off of the weight of the bird that is going to receive it. The dosage on all of those is assumed for a full adult lady gouldian which is in the 10-15 gram weight range. You would need to scale down the dosage then 15-30 times given that the chick probably only weighs 1/2 a gram.

Honestly, the single drop we use when administering SCATT is kind of high in dosage even for adults but its about as small of a dose as we can give them.

If the babies dont have ASM and you are only planning to do this for a preventative thing.. wait... seriously. I can only imagine more harm being done then good. Look at it like this. Those chicks probably only have about an equivalent of 5 drops of blood in them. You would be replacing 20% of that with a drop that goes into their system and blood stream.

just thought of something else, if the chicks DO have ASM, treat with a water based ASM treatment (S76 or Ivermetux or whatever its called) and then when mom/dad drinks and feeds the chicks, they will get a SIGNIFICANTLY reduced dosage.

I agree with you. I knew I would end up with s76 or Iverlux. I know this has been asked million times, does S76 or Iverlux work? My birds are showing very mild symptoms of ASM such as open mouth breathing and ocassional very low clicking sounds when bird is placed on my ear.

I believe SCATT is good for birds six months and older,so i wouldn't try it on your babies.

I agree with all of the above - only give to the parents IF you are positive they have ASM. Do not give to the babies.

Should I consider S76 or Iverlux for now, since my finches have very mild symptoms and the baby situation? I really need straightforward answers for this one.

S76 is safe for all ages of birds and will not harm the chicks, though dead mites might. Scatt should never be used on chicks under the age of 6 months.
