I have a self society that I purchased from a breeder several months ago. She has always been lethargic. She eats well. Her feathers are beautiful. Her eyes are bright. She is a beautiful bird, but I know something is not right with her. Any advice on what to do or how to figure it out?

She laid eggs 2 weeks ago. A week ago I found one of them on the cage floor broken in half. There was a baby inside. Three days ago two more were cracked , still in the nest. Babies inside also. Yesterday two males in the nest were eating the two cracked ones. Any idea what happened with these babies?

Maybe because something is not right with her? I won't let her breed again until I figure out what is going on with her.

Hopefully with help from others here I can figure this all out. Thank you in advance everyone.

Not an expert on society's but it sounds like the males could be competing for her attention to me. I'd take a male out.

can you specify the diet she was fed whilst laying, maybe she needs a protein or vitamin kick. As for the broken eggs, again im no expert but if there is 2 males to 1 female competition is rife, especially if she is in breeding condtion.

She is not the only female . Two other females also laid eggs in the same nest. Her diet is soaked seed,egg food, dry seed with green powders mixed in and a vitamin/mineral supplement. There is also oyster shell that I believe also has charcoal in it. She was very lazy ever since I purchased her.

I am a new home owner and was a bit slow with getting my heat on as I had a few things to maintenance on my heating system and the house Temps got in the low 60, upper 50s for 2-3 days during the start of winter. 2 of my finches caught a nasty cold. They were quite lethargic during their sickness period. They perked up with the addition of a 90W light source in the cage. They both pulled through just fine. 1 took about 2 weeks, the other took 4 weeks.

One other thought, have they had worms to eat? Would NOT be a bad idea to consider a deworming product (Worm Away). Also, does the finch have any issue breathing? Consider a broad spectrum antibiotic or even a drop of SCATT. I know its random but it wont hurt. Just dont do any of the treatments at the same time.
