blood bubble on vent?
I peeked in at the baby societies today. The smallest one looks like it has a round red little ball on it's vent. Kinda looks like a blood ball. He was probably born after some of the others. There were 12 eggs from 3 hens. The parents are feeding all. What could this be? Any ideas?

Were you able to get a good close look at it or was it just a glance? Could it be a red bit of food that a parent brought into the nest and just happened to get stuck there? I wouldn't think it would be prolapse in one so young. A photo might help if you can hold the chick without upsetting the birds too much.

It wasn't food. I don't feed anything red. I got more than a glance. All the babies were vents facing me. I will try to get a picture, but my camera won't stay charged. I also don't know how to post pictures. Maybe one of the kids will be able to help if my camera cooperates.
Otherwise I will try to look again later. If it is still there maybe I can try to describe better. But really it looked like a little red ball of skin. It was the color of blood. Shaped like a ball. It was about half the size of a pea.
I will report back later after I get a chance to look again.

A blood blister perhaps? One of the parents may have pecked its behind (not intending to hurt it). If it's just a blood blister, it will heal up on its own.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to my post. One baby died. There was something above the vent. Not sure what. The other babies are doing great.
