Bath?
How often should I give me birds (Budgies) a bath?
I don't have much time since I have school Hw studying ect...
When it is there for 3 days if has about 5 feathers in it and a few seeds so I think maybe I should do a specific day that I give them a bath for the day. (like Saturday)
(I found a way to keep my buggies quite)

Re: Bath?
My birds have bath water available at all times. Why limit it to once a week?
However, my budgies never bathe. They only drink water. They do like it though when I put bunches of wet greens in, such as a bunch of parsley. They rub against it as if they used it as sort of wet towel to clean themselves.
Just curious: How do you keep them quiet now?
And Batuhan: Why do you not give bath water during incubation?

Re: Bath?
Hi Ursula,
why ?
because some birds enjoy bathing very much and so if the hen often leave the eggs for bathing the eggs get cold....
after bathing the hen sits on the eggs and the eggs might stick to the hen's body...
what else ?
if the hen take bath so often during incubating she might go cold/give up to sit on eggs

Re: Bath?
When my birds are sitting tight, I leave the bath water in there all the time. I think they use it for moisture/humidity for the brood. I don't know where I got that idea, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything.
Otherwise, they all get a bath every morning.

Re: Bath?
When I bred canaries I always made sure they had baths. The hen would fluff and wet her feathers sometimes before returning to the nest. They regulate the humidity that way. Though some finch species need dry housing. Also as the youngsters fledge bath can be a water hazzard. You don't want them soaking wet.

Re: Bath?
I have a fountain in my aviary. My birds bathe EVERYDAY and even the gouldians love it.
They bathe several times a day in fact. I have never had any problems with the incubating hens leaving eggs to bath..... if they do, the cock covers for her.
I believe that bathing and having it available for your birds is important for their health and happiness!

Re: Bath?
It only takes about 30 seconds for me to change their bath water. I'm sure you have a few minutes of free time everyday.

Re: Bath?
I am totally with Domenic! My little birds love to bathe every day, and some TWICE a day! Spend the 30 seconds and put a little shallow bowl in every day.
