My birds have mites/lice. I see the droppings on white paper. They all itch using their feet to scratch the face area and their beak for the vent and other areas. I am only into safe and natural treatments. I am afraid to use the poisons and chemicals even though they are supposed to be safe. I think they are hard on the birds and I know I couldn't be around the spray or chance getting medicine absorbed through my skin accidentally. I know I would get sick..
Has anyone used essential oils diffused for their birds? I am going to try it.
Any other suggestions of safely eliminating mites/lice are greatly appreciated.
One gouldian is now napping during the day He was my most active gouldian and is now the least active. He scratches more than the others.

Re: diffusing essential oils
They are not bad for the birds if you know what you are doing and you are using the proper ones.
I would highly suggest you contact Lainey Alexander (http://www.grasslandsgouldians.com) - lainealex@earthlink.net
She uses medical grade EOs (NOT PERFUME GRADE) as well as other natural treatments (teas, etc) and she also has her own Yahoo! forum called Essential Bird where there is open discussion on alternative meds for birds.
She has been very helpful for me.
