Gouldian with following symptons

Post by HoangQuan » Fri Feb 05, 2010 8:39 pm

My male Gouldian has had some strange symptons the days nearby. So I hope you can help me decide what kind of illness was that, and find the treatment.
the first sympton is, he has a wet vent area, not too bad but we can see it is wet. So I cut off all the green in his diet for 2 days, and the vent still wet.
Then, I noticed that he might lose his weight a bit, although he still eating well.
And finally, he's kind of puffy, but only in very early morning or late evening, he stops puffing up right after sunlight go into the cage..

I am confusing between bacterial infection and protozoa...whatever it is, I need to find a treatment right before it's too late when all the "basic sick finch look" appears. :?
*edited* I've just found that maybe he had canker, details here:

:( :( :(
So I will much appreciate if you guys help me.
thanks alot.
Hoang.

I wish you had more responses Hoang.. :( I really have no idea what's wrong here. You said he is losing weight, here is a detailed article on "going light", you may have already read it but I hope it can be of assistance to you.

His feces turned green and runny yesterday morning, and because I did cut off the green on the diet, I started to treat him with antibiotic. Luckily, things got better, he became as active as usual, still looking thin, but I will keep the treatment for at least more 3-4 days, and then will think about getting his weights back :)
Domenic, thank you so much for replying me with that link, I remember bookmark it but last week I just coulnd find it anywhere :?

I am really sorry to say, after that terrible night that I was robbed, I think the little gouldian can't never make it :( , although he is still active and act like normal, and all the symptons I described above were gone, he keeps losing more and more weights :( :( :( , he's so thin now I can visually see the bone under his belly. I have no idea if that is the last "effect" from the desease and he's on the way recovering from now, or that he's still sick. He definitely look and sound better, he sings a lot everyday, only the weight scared me :? . Should I provide him any product helping increase immune system? Here I can only get product from "Avitec Products", so Im thinking about "Guardian angel" or "Avilina Spirulina"

I will try my best anyway, but I just don't think he can survive it if he keeps losing weights like that, how sad :(
