Gouldian is fluffed up.
My male gouldian is fluffing up again. He is in a hospital cage with the female gouldian who was the first to be fluffed up 2 weeks ago. She is no longer fluffed up and in very good condition. The male doesn't sleep with his head under his wing, but his feathers on his back are frequently spiked up and he is overall very plump and fluffy. His feather condition has not been the greatest lately, even before the female gouldian was introduced. His chest is a little dull and mottled looking, his back is the same. Very dull and messy overall. I believe he was molting when he became sick and is now stuck in the molt. Is this possible for gouldians who have already been through their first molt?
I just can't seem to find the solution to this problem. Everyone else who caught this sickness has gotten over it and is back to everyday activity except for him.

No because I have no clue what could be wrong here.

Re: Gouldian is fluffed up.
Sorry he's not feeling well. Is it possible that your eggfood or greens could be spoiling before you remove them from the cage? Sometimes they can get sick from that, then recover, then upon eating bad greens, sick again.
Just a guess. There are so many things it could be. Possibly just a very difficult moult. Keep him under the heat. Seems if it was something serious he wouldn't of improved last time. Prayers are being said

Thank you Candace, I will remove the greens for a few days and see what happens.

Re: Gouldian is fluffed up.
I have a question. For the past week I've been leaving the heat lamp on non-stop, through the entire night as well. Do you think he could be acting this way partly because of exhaustion? I was afraid to turn the heat lamp off at night because the temperature in the house drops a bit. He seems to be trying to catch some z's, I think the endless days may have caused him to be totally out of whack. Tonight I'm turning the lights off at sundown and letting him rest thoroughly.

Did you ever treat either of them with anything? As long as he has room to get away from the heat lamp he should be fine and not get overheated.

Re: Gouldian is fluffed up.
Judah the male gouldian is stuck in the molt. I believe he was in the middle of molting when he caught this sickness. Perhaps that's why he caught it in the first place, because he was more susceptible. Anyway, I don't think he can keep himself thoroughly warm and this is why his feathers are always spiky. He also looks very dull with small patches of feathers missing on his chest and wings. I have him under the heat lamp and he isn't poofing up, but still spending quite a bit of time sleeping. I have also noticed that he is thinner now, but that may be my fault for placing the food too far from him. I've placed him in a smaller hospital cage and he is mostly eating and sleeping, moving around rarely.
