Gouldian Losing Feathers

Post by KNG5 » Tue May 29, 2007 8:30 pm

I was looking at my juvenile gouldian hen, and notices she is missing a bunch of feathers from one side of her head. I really don't know why...I dont think my birds are fighting /that/ badly...help!! (In the cage, I currently have 2 males and 2 females. They are all colored out except for the one female.)

Are you providing them with an iodine supplement? If not that could be the reason your hen is going bald. The Aussie finches require more iodine than most.

I use liquid kelp.

Nope, I'm not..and I just noticed that my other hen seems to be losing a bit too. I guess I'll need to buy some. Is it available in pet stores, I wonder, or would I need to buy it over the internet?

I've never seen it in pet stores, but that might just be them. I get mine online, just google "liquid kelp" and see what comes up. You can also offer the kelp in powder form.

Here's some info on kelp (iodine), http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/product_liquidkelp.mgi
