3 females, 1 male....am I in for a lot of eggs?

Post by otto&lucy » Mon Feb 18, 2008 9:46 pm

Well, I was planning on getting all male Society's but ended up with 3 females and 1 male.

Can anyone tell me what to expect with this? Will the male only choose one female to stick with or will I have eggs EVERYWHERE from ALL of my females?

Thanks!

I believe you will only be having one pair because the male society can't raise 3 clutches at once

You will have lots and lots of eggs, but only one set of the 3 will be fertilized, so that's good right?

Well, most finches aren't monogamous, even with a bonded mate, so he might have a harem there. If you have one nest, it may get VERY crowded! I would keep a close eye on things.

I think you need to buy a couple more males...lol! Other wise you may end up with a Finch Smackdown fight. :D

Heads up! I have two females and one male...yes the male will at least attempt to mate with the other females....but...when he should pick the first mate...I've found the first female mated with will def get jealous and try to stop any mating with the other females.

Minor aggression usually, but 3:1 is a bigger ratio...
