Do the Blue females beaks turn black on a gouldian like they do on the normals when they are in breeding condition?

That is interesting!! I was wondering about my Gouldian's beak starting to get more red....but I didn't realize they can turn other colors as well.

Yes the females turn black when they are ready to breed. My blue females did this ALSO so I wanted to make sure it was the same reason, lol
And today she finally picked herself a handsome man so HOPEFULLY blue babies on the way

Isn't the gouldian courtship the cutest, lol I left all mine together and let them choose there mates.
My BH WB Blue female choose a Rh WB NB
My RH PB NB choose a RH WB NB
and my BH Wb NB Choose My BH Pastel Blue guy. Kinda cause he was left over, she truly does NOT seem impressed BUT shes been laying eggs every where with no mate so shes ready, lol

I think the beak changing color is a Gouldian thing. I can't think of it happening with other species that I have, but of course, I only have a few species. I found out about the red beaks on yellow Gouldians, because I bought a hen, and then when her beak got redder and redder, I thought maybe I had a male after all. I don't know enough about Gouldians to know why this is. I have two yellow hens, so I wonder if the yellow males get a red beak, too.

Yes yellow backed male gouldians definitely get red beaks - just like someone took them and dipped their beaks in bright red paint! It looks so cool... now if only they would "do more" than just sing all day long!

I just realized that my female Gouldian's beak has turned a dark grey...not quite black but it must be changing...how interesting!
That's what I love about this place...always something new to learn...I think my brain is bigger already.

(okay...NO wisecracks from the peanut gallery please!)

The yellow back gouldian female's beak turns a grey colour when in breeding mode and it's much lighter than the greed back gouldian female.
