Blue Gouldian Babies
I paired two white breasted blue gouldians and set them up with a new type of nest. Since gouldians are cavity nesters, I thought I might have fewer losses if I gave them a more "natural" set up. I found a hollow "log" (actually a hamster chew toy/hut that is edible but solid called a "snak shak" http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_ ... 47884&Ne=2) and allowed them to set up a nest in that. They laid 5 eggs, 4 were fertile and hatched over the past couple of days. All 4 babies are alive and being fed and cared for by both parents with no problems whatsoever. I really do think they feel more secure in this type of nest. (I placed the nest in a vertical position and made it deeper by placing it on top of a bowl. They built the nest in the bowl, but enter through either the top or front of the "log.")

That's cool Crystal. Glad to hear they are being good parents. I would love to attempt breeding my Goulds but space is limited so I will fight the temptation for now.
