Post by lonchura_boi » Mon Mar 10, 2008 12:07 pm

just curious as to what peoples biggest broods have been with their finches.
my biggest zeb brood was 10 eggs, 9 hatched, 5 survived.

biggest bengie brood was 6, all survived

biggest java brood was 8, all survived.

 not finches i know but i had a pair of bobwhite quail incubating a clutch of 32 eggs! none survived, the male was doing the incubation and the hen kept laying every day, and the male eventualy abbandoned the nest just dayd before the first 10 eggs were due to hatch(he started incubating at 10 eggs)
you never call me when your sobar

That's insane about the quail!!

I've got societies with 4 babies right now (2 eggs didn't hatch). I think my zebs have been unsuccessful with their clutch. :? It's my first time breeding.

Wow, those are some big numbers!

My biggest brood were Zebras 7 eggs 5 hatched all survived.

My biggest Java brood 1egg 1 survivor - lol!!

Other than that all my other species have not laid more than 6 eggs with average 3 to 4 hatchlings. In my breeding cages I have about a 85% fledgling rate and in my mixed aviary about 40-50%.

My singing quail numbers are to embarrassing to mention, so don't get me started

Whoa! Those are large numbers!

I don't intend to breed anytime soon though...I'd much rather learn about finches first, and then worry about breeding later, if ever. But since you guys are all experts, you're doing great!
I'm a hamster freak and I'm loving it! Currently loving 3 hammies.

Let's see, the biggest clutches:

Zebras - 9 eggs, 9 survived (parents were worn out!)
Stars - 5 eggs, 5 survived
Goldbreasts - 5 eggs, 5 survived
BC Cordon Bleus - 5 eggs, 1 hatched, 1 survived (fostered)
Strawberries - 4 eggs, 4 hatched, 1 survived (fostered)
Owls - 6 eggs, 2 hatched, 2 survived

Gouldians - this doesn't really count, as there are 3 hens in the cage, and at least two of them were involved, I believe, but: 11 eggs, 10 hatched, 3 survived (had to foster them)
